Workspace

All projects and files created with SmartPLS are always located in a folder on your computer. We call this folder Workspace.

The current workspace is displayed to you in SmartPLS. You can also switch between different workspaces.

Exporting and importing single projects

You can export individual projects via > File > Export project and import them again on another computer via > File > Import project from a backup file. This function is useful, for example, to exchange projects with colleagues.

Importing a complete workspace

Via > File > Import projects from a folder you can also import an entire workspace folder, e.g. to migrate your old projects from SmartPLS 3 to SmartPLS 4. See also our detailed migration guide.

Transferring workspace from another computer

With the help of the functions described above, you can easily move your data to another computer.

  1. Locate the workspace folder on your old computer
  2. Copy the folder (e.g. to a USB-stick) and transfer it to your new computer
  3. Launch SmartPLS on your new computer
  4. Select the transferred folder as your workspace via > File > Switch Workspace
