SmartPLS License Policy for Educational Courses
If you run a publicly announced workshop or training, your participants can get a course license. Contact our sales team before the course to set it up.

The license period always begins on the official course start date.
Restriction of the free license
The free 2-week license is meant for participants of a single course. To prevent misuse, SmartPLS limits how many different free course keys can be used together: once a fourth different free course key is used, SmartPLS quits right after startup and shows an error message instead of opening the workspace.
This restriction never applies to the paid 1-month and 2-month licenses. If your participants may attend several of your courses, or if you want to avoid the limit altogether, choose a paid license. Your participants then have unrestricted access for the full license period.
Who is eligible
- The course must be publicly announced on a website, event page, university platform or a comparable public platform (including our weblink: https://www.smartpls.com).
- You must clearly communicate our Fair Use Policy on your course pages.
University curriculum courses
The free and discounted course licenses are for independent workshops, trainings and community-driven educational events. Courses that are officially part of a degree program or academic curriculum are generally not eligible.
For these courses, regular commercial or academic licensing applies. We expect the university, department or course organizer to either:
- purchase a SmartPLS license for all participating students, or
- equip university computer labs with properly licensed SmartPLS installations.
Fair Use Policy
We reserve the right to monitor the usage of course licenses in order to prevent misuse of the program. The restriction of the free license is one way this policy is enforced automatically.
Users who repeatedly enroll in courses primarily to obtain free or discounted licenses (“course hopping”) may be excluded from all future course license programs. Such restrictions may be applied automatically and without prior notice.
Course organizers are expected to take reasonable measures to discourage and exclude users who participate in courses primarily for the purpose of obtaining licenses rather than genuinely attending the course.
We also reserve the right to exclude entire courses or course groups from the course license program if we detect abuse, misuse, or attempts to circumvent the intent of this policy.
